Digging Deeper - Amazing Grace

God’s grace is amazing. As Paul tells us in Romans 3:23-4, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Covenant theology is central to Reformed theology and one of the key ways we experience God’s grace is through His covenants. As we Dig Deeper into His Word this year, we will see how God’s Amazing Grace has been shared through His covenants, culminating in His gift of the New Covenant, which was fulfilled in the life and death of Jesus.

  • Sunday, January 15 No Digging Deeper New Year’s Brunch
  • Sunday, January 22 Genesis 1:26-2:3 “Created in His Image The Gracious Blessing of Life”
  • Sunday, January 29 Genesis 3 “A Painful Fall; Our Need for Grace”

Sermon Series “Living by Faith”

As we celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant, Reformation, we being the year with a study of Paul’s Letter to the Romans, a key Scripture for Martin Luther, as he wrestled with how we are saved and how we live out our faith.

As Paul says in Romans 1:17, “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’ “

Come and be blessed as we learn more about living by faith in Jesus.

We will seek to grow in our expectancy of God’s healing power today, in understanding the dynamics of seeking and receiving healing from Him, exploring our calling to be a part of Jesus’s healing ministry today, be better equipped to work with Jesus in His healing ministry, learn the dynamics of God’s kingdom healing today, learn how to proclaim His kingdom and expect to see His powerful healing work in our lives each day. There will be opportunities for hands on prayer and we expect to see God at work, healing and doing miracles.

One God, Many Gods, Bible Studies for Postmodern Times, 12 Complete Bible Studies on Prominent World Religions for Youth and Adults.”

Studies included discussions of Christianity -a Standard for Comparison; Judaism -the Descendants of Abraham; Hinduism -Striving for Nirvana; Buddhism -the Eightfold Path; Shinto -the National worship of Japan; Islam -Allah and his Prophet; Satanism and the Occult -worshiping evil; Mormonism (or Latter Day Saints) -“As God Is, Man May Become”; Jehovah’s Witnesses -“Jehovah Who?” ; Scientology -a Theology of Mental Health; New Age Thinking -Everyone and Everything is God?; Atheists, Agnostics and Skeptics -Questions about the Existence of God.

Pastor Bryce and Pastor Vigen assisted with different parts of the class, as they shared their knowledge of Islam and Buddhism based on their pastoral and missionary service around the world.

The overarching theme of the study is: as each religion is compared to Christianity, a constant refrain is heard -the fullness of God’s love is seen only in the Christian faith. God acts on our behalf, independent of our own effort, to redeem us from sin through the work of Jesus Christ, His Son, and gives us new life through the free gift of faith.

Elk Grove is continually becoming a place of great diversity ethnically, economically and religiously. This study is intended to teach us more about our faith as Christians, more about the faiths of those around us, and how we can share our faith with each person who is around us, including those of different faiths.
